The Alumni Script Reading Series gives AFI alumni the opportunity to submit a screenplay to be read with professional actors and receive constructive feedback from others in the artistic community. Please join us for the fourth selection of the series:

When 19-year-old Carla tells the cops she suspects her father of committing a terrible crime, they don't believe her and set their sites on a different man, leaving Carla to fit the pieces together and right the wrong before it's too late.
Based on a true story and inspired by "Objects in Side View Mirror Are Truer Than They Appear" by Alex Kotlowitz, a Production of Chicago Public Radio's THIS AMERICAN LIFE.

ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW premieres in theaters and VOD this month.
Soojin Chung (AFI Class of 2008) is the producer/editor, Lucas Lee Graham (AFI Class of 2008) is the cinematographer, Lawrence Kim (AFI Class of 2006) is the production designer, Katelynn Wheelock (AFI Class of 2010) is the art director, Brittany Bradford (AFI Class of 2010) is art department assistant and Jeong-Seok Park (AFI Class of 2009) is the first assistant editor.
Letia Clouston (AFI Class of 2008) is directing a horror feature called THE 6TH FRIEND, starring Dominique Swain. Chris Burgon (AFI Class of 2008) is the cinematographer.
Fresh off their last time-lapse hits DEATH VALLEY DREAMLAPSE Parts 1 and 2, the Sunchaser Pictures team struck gold again with their new galaxy short, BORREGO STARDANCE, being featured on the front pages of National Geographic.com, CBS News.com, Yahoo News, Gizmodo, Outside Magazine and many more. The short was produced by Michael Darrow (AFI Class of 2006), Rachel Payne (AFI Class of 2006) and John C. Brookins (AFI Class of 2006) and directed by Gavin Heffernan (AFI Class of 2006).
Dan Hertzog (AFI Class of 2004) lensed the dramatic short SUGAR, recently named a finalist in Canon's Project Imaginat10n.
After hundreds of short film entries for Canon's Project Imaginat10n, Ron Howard and Bryce Dallas Howard selected HERE AND NOW as one of five Grand Prize Winners. Julian Higgins (AFI Class of 2010) is the director/screenwriter, Andrew Wheeler (AFI Class of 2010) is the cinematographer, Arndt Peemoeller (AFI Class of 2010) is the editor and Erika Ann Walters (AFI Class of 2010) is the production designer.
LD Entertainment has signed on to produce and finance SANTA SCHOOL, a family film written by Karen Janszen (AFI Class of 1990).
The audio book for A THOUSAND BEAUTIES, based on the novel by Mark Kaplan (AFI Class of 1994), was released on Amazon.com and Audible.com.
Tarik Karam (AFI Class of 2005), Thymaya Payne (AFI Class of 2006) and Elliott Williams (AFI Class of 2012) were selected for Film Independent's 2013 Screenwriting Lab.
DEAR DUMB DIARY, a children's musical feature film, premiered on the Hallmark Channel last month. Anka Malatynska (AFI Class of 2007) is the cinematographer.
MODEL MINORITY, produced, directed and written by Lily Mariye (AFI Directing Workshop for Women, Class of 1999), is now available on Amazon.com.
Susan Salas (AFI Class of 1995) is the Director of Broadcasting and Associate Professor of Media Production at Pepperdine University. John Sitter (AFI Class of 2004) has joined Salas' program as an adjunct professor teaching advanced editing. Isabelle Fox (AFI Class of 1995) will be joining the adjunct staff in the spring semester.
CAPTAIN ABU RAED played on the big screen at the New Beverly Theater. The film was Amin Matalqa's (AFI Class of 2007) first feature. Linda Sena (AFI Class of 2001) is the production designer.
The dramatic thriller FINAL RECOURSE was delivered for international distribution. Barbara Stepansky (AFI Class of 2005) is the director and Jayson Crothers (AFI Class of 2005) is the cinematographer.
Barbara Stepansky (AFI Class of 2005) is one of 10 finalists in the 2013 Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting competition (out of 7,251 submissions) with her feature script SUGAR IN MY VEINS. Tamara Farsadi (AFI Class of 2003) was a quarterfinalist with her feature script TALL, DARK & PERSIAN.
Michael Vogler (AFI Class of 1999) was featured on the front cover of Los Angeles Lawyer, the magazine of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Vogler, now an attorney, explains in the article how studios can effectively comply with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).
Valerie Weiss (AFI Directing Workshop for Women, Class of 2005) was interviewed on ROADTRIP NATION, a show about defining your own road in life. Weiss also directed a video called TOM HANKS FAN ACADEMY starring Ben Weber, which was featured on the front page of funnyordie.com. Additionally, the song "When I Grow Up," written by Eleisha Eagle for Weiss' movie LOSING CONTROL, was featured in an IKEA Italy ad.
