MADE IN ASH [Az do mesta as]
Fresh out of high school, Dorotka leaves her Romany family behind in Eastern Slovakia in search of a better life and available work in the Czech border town of Ash. But the cramped apartment, meager wages and long shifts she encounters aren't exactly what she had in mind. When her factory job falls through, Dorotka has little choice but to join her hustler roommate in sexual exploitation. A documentarian and animator by training, young filmmaker Iveta Grófová utilizes non-professional actors and animated vignettes to achieve a stark authenticity in her feature narrative debut. Official Selection, 2012 Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
