Grant Gee's (JOY DIVISION, Radiohead's MEETING PEOPLE IS EASY) haunting, beautiful companion documentary to the late author W. G. Sebald's landmark Suffolk travelogue-cum-memory piece, "The Rings of Saturn." Black-and-white footage of the coastal landscape is matched to excerpts from the book, read by Jonathan Pryce; Sebald's trademark digressions accompany archival footage, notably the WWII bombing of his native Germany; and thoughtful explication is provided by a chorus of Sebald admirers, including Robert Macfarlane, Rick Moody, Iain Sinclair, Marina Warner, Chris Petit and Tacita Dean. Official Selection, 2011 New York Film Festival; 2012 Rotterdam Film Festival.
